Here are the Branch Administrators who are helping keep all of this information straight!   Thank you all!

What is the Numeric "Code" in the Trees and Directory?

The numeric code shows where you fit into the family tree.   Each digit shows the birth order of you and your ancestors, one digit for each generation, going back to the seven brothers.   For example, the code for the late "Cousin Alf" who passed away in 2013, is 62 -- he was the second sibling of the sixth brother.

Spouses/partners are represented by a + sign; continuing the above example with Alf, his wife Peggy is code 62+.   Notably, step-children often end up being added with codes that "out-of-birth-order".    No worries, we simply append a lower-case "s" to their code to flag the situation and eliminate confusion.

What About Existing Genealogy Records, like ancestry.com?

There have been various versions of "family trees" floating around for years. These trees are either:

Neither of these is super helpful for connecting living people, or for serving as a shared repository for photos and other records.

Significantly, this site is private, so we can safely add phone numbers, email addresses, and other personal information. Which allows us to better connect with each other.

Printing Big and Beautiful Family Trees

These are the steps that created the big posters for the 2023 Reunion. These steps worked on MacOs Ventura 13.4 using Chrome 114. Your mileage may vary, but this is the general sequence. It is a good idea to review the printing options available to you; FedEx shops can print on various (but not all?) large formats, and sign companies can do so as well. Prices can vary quite a bit.

  1. Click on Trees in the top nav bar.
  2. Click on the ’Full Details’ link for the desired tree.
  3. Click on ’Print’ (located in upper-right corner of the webpage, next to ’Bookmark’).
  4. The preview window loads. Click on ’>>Print<<’ in upper-right corner.
  5. The print dialog appears as a popup window. Suggest enlarging it before proceeding.
  6. Choose ’Save as PDF’ and click on ’More settings’ to use these options:
    • Choose ’Save as PDF’
    • Choose ’Minimum margins’
    • Choose desired paper size (we mostly used A1; see sizes)
    • Choose ’Custom Scaling’ and play with the zoom percent to get a good fit
    • Headers and footers ON; Background graphics OFF.
  7. Click ’Save’ to create the PDF.
  8. Send the PDF to a print shop or whatever.

What Sort of Work is Going on Right Now?

We need someone from each branch to be responsible for updating their branch! A great start would be getting headshots for everyone.

We also need a handful of "editors" who can step in and add the extra information which makes this family database interesting and useful.

When you register, you will have some basic 'edit rights' which allow you to suggest changes. If you want to make significant additions, then let John know so that he can give you additional edit permissions. More details can be found here (login required): Information for Editors
